What Greatness Is

Greatness is not about perfection or achievements. That’s your outer reality.

True greatness is more about your inner reality: the landscape of your soul, your capacity to embrace imperfections, and your willingness to work hard to be better.

Why Greatness Involves Surrender

For a long time, I’ve felt the Lord call me to more. I can tell because of my desire for more, which at times looks like boredom, restlessness, or even just simple frustration. If you can relate, I know God is calling you to more, too.

But before we can get more, we need to lay a few things down:

  • Fear
  • Insecurity
  • Pride
  • Expectations

And along the way, we need to take up some things, too:

  • Hope
  • Confidence
  • Humility
  • Peace

Rest assured, this is a process. It’ll include growth, change, and embracing what’s imperfect along the way.

The name of this blog is Surrendering for Greatness because in order to get where we’re going, we need to stop holding on to some of the junk we’ve carried around for too long, and take up–in other words, own, carry, claim–the greatness that’s within us already.

Where I’m from

I am from the great state of New Mexico, where I was born and raised and went to college at New Mexico State University (go Aggies!). I studied English and Government and pre-law.

I served as a missionary with Life Teen International for four years after graduating from NMSU. These four years were transformational and life-changing. I got to know Jesus in an up-close and personal way. He came close and whispered love stories into my heart, and I got to turn around and tell those same stories to teenagers and adults and anyone that crossed my path.

For the last several years, I’ve been in the professional world: first in a law firm, next in a college, then as a marketing professional in a small Catholic nonprofit, and for the last few years I’ve worked as a freelance email marketer, while earning a Masters degree in Organizational Leadership.

My career path hasn’t been as straightforward as I once thought it would be, but I have seen God with me every step of the way, even in my darkest moments. I hope I can help you see how God accompanies you, too.

Where I’ve been

I’ve traveled all over the world. (Well, I’m working on it.) I’ve been on mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. I went to World Youth Day in Australia, with a pit stop in New Zealand and Fiji. I’ve watched the sun go down at 11:00 pm in the Netherlands (this did not help my jet lag). I’ve walked the streets of Rome and seen the pope wave to me from his tiny car as his motorcade drove past. (That was very unexpected and very cool.)
